“I was a student at VUW a couple of years back and I did not complete my course because I was a silly naughty little 17year old brat who had nooooo idea about how the real world works!!
Well basically I went straight from High School to Uni at the age of 17, and had no idea about what I really wanted to do – I was going to uni because that was the ‘thing to do’ and i studied the subjects that I excelled in at school, and without the same student-teacher relationship that I had in my school I stopped caring. It was just too easy to slack off because I did not really feel like I was letting anyone down, whereas at school I had teachers with expectations.
I was aware of Vic Careers when I was studying but I was too much of a know-it-all to take any advice.
Agh! What a mess!! In hindsight I would have travelled first and then decided on what I wanted to study, if at all. Coming from a small town at the age of 17 years old, I was wise beyond my years but I still did not really know myself.
Now, however, I am living in Australia and wishing to resume my studies.
I am getting there in the end – just has taken me a bit longer to get there than it should have!”
