According to research last year by Nick Jones and Associates, an estimated 2.72 million New Zealanders support the community and voluntary sector in someway.
An estimated 969,000 people both volunteer and donate money or goods – meaning that almost 80% of people who volunteer also donate money or goods.
Despite the recession it appears New Zealanders are still giving back with volunteering and donations. The New Zealand Herald reported recently on how individual giving is rising.
A a student how do you feel about getting involved with volunteering or donating money? Is volunteering a passion for you and why?
As the Victoria Plus Award Co-ordinator I am working on a programme which is all about recognising a student’s significant involvement in volunteer work, so I am pleased to see that individuals seem as motivated now as ever before to get involved in their communities.
