Want to have a totally unique experience? If you are aged between 18 and 28, enthusiastic, adventurous, committed and passionate about wanting to make a difference, then volunteering with Students Partnership Worldwide (SPW) could be for you!
SPW is an international non-profit, non-government organisation working with and for young people in Africa and Asia. SPW volunteers work as peer-educators and deliver vital health, environment and community education which directly reaches over 400,000 young people each year. In New Zealand, Volunteer Service Abroad (VSA) recruits young Kiwis to work as volunteers in Zambia and South Africa through SPW. After comprehensive training, you and other volunteers are hosted in communities for 8 – 11 months.
The SPW approach is targeted at empowering young people to take up leadership roles so that they have the confidence and skills to shape the development of their own lives, families and communities.
As a student, volunteering abroad gives you the opportunity to develop new skills, immerse yourself in a different culture, experience first-hand the issues and challenges facing developing countries, learn a new language, make great friends and discover more about yourself. You can improve your CV and perhaps take a step towards a career in International Development or in the non-for-profit sector.
