John has been job hunting for a little while now. He was advised that putting a face to his applications is crucially important for increasing his chances of getting noticed.
He started attending employer presentations.
At one particular presentation, while he was chatting with the CEO of the organisation, the CEO accidentally spilt his wine onto John.
The CEO felt so bad that he gave John his business card and asked John for his name.
He also asked John to send through his application and promised that he’ll remember him when he receives his application. John has succeeded in putting a face to his application!
Not everyone gets to have something dramatic like John. However, attending and networking at careers events can certainly help with adding the personal touch to your applications. Find out what careers events your university is offering and be sure to make the most out of them. You might get to meet the same people that might be interviewing and assessing you later.
