Giving back, getting involved in our community or just having fun. This is why many of us help out at events. On the Victoria Plus programme we have many students who help at community festivals or the e-day recycling event for example. These kinds of activities count for the Vic Plus Award if they are for a not-for-profit organisation.

So, if you want to check out the opportunities, I’d suggest a relatively new website:  http://www.volunteernet.org.nz/ to look at events all round the country. There are ‘Coastal Clean Ups’ or sporting events like the ‘Contact Tri Series’ where the organisers are looking for keen volunteers to make the event a success. This could be the start of a new adventure for you and will help develop team working and problem solving skills and demonstrates energy and enthusiasm. All good evidence for your CV.
