What do you want to be when you grow up?
I remember when I was young and people asked me this question all the time. How I managed to cough up an acceptable answer still puzzles me, but here’s an easy way out…
In Chinese tradition, on a child’s first birthday, he/she will typically be presented with a few items and the item that he/she picks will indicate the direction of his/her career in the future.
Pen – Writer/Artist Abacus/Calculator – Businessperson Stethoscope – Doctor Book – Teacher/Scholar Ruler – Lawyer Coin – Rich person Shoe – Traveller
I’m not sure how true this is, but anyway, just like to take this opportunity to wish everyone who is celebrating Chinese New Year this weekend a very big Happy Chinese New Year!
