The “what the hell” effect!
“I have already ruined it anyway, I may as well go all out!”
Sounds familiar? Does it resonate with you?
At the beginning of this year, I started off with the good intentions of limiting my junk food intake and keeping up with the good running routine I’ve worked so hard to establish at the end of last year.
…BUT, both I have failed miserably.
As soon as I began munching on my first pack of chips (a little reward I gave to myself for doing so well at the start), the floodgate opened! The first pack is soon followed by the second, then the third, the forth, and before long, I demolished all the ‘stock’ in my cupboard!
…because: “I have already ruined it anyway, I may as well go all out and clean out the cupboard!”
Same with running, I missed out on my first run of the year, then the second, the third, and no guessing there, now I have stopped trying be accountable at all!
…again, “I have already ruined it anyway, I may as well go all out!”
Like many, I have good intentions, but bad execution!
But, I’m thinking…
What if… WHAT IF I can transform the negativity in the “what the hell” attitude and use it in a positive way?
Maybe I could initiate a spring clean on my max out apartment, enrol in a new course, start a new venture, join a new club…
And motivate myself with:
“I have already started it, I may as well go all out!”
Wishful thinking? Who knows, but I shall give it a try!
Here’s to a great start to the New Year everyone!
