What’s next?
I have just discovered the joy of podcasts: and boy do we have a couple good ‘uns here in Wellington care of our esteemed Vic alumni/students and friends. I strongly recommend What’s Next? with Sophie and Hannah, both Vic graduates – “a podcast about navigating your way through adulthood and everything that comes with it. Hosted by two friends who are trying to be good adults”. There is a lot in the first 10 episodes about making decisions, flatting, goals and everything seems to touch on careers. There are laughs, challenges, sharing of pain points and oh-my-god-I’ve-been-there moments. And now Sophie and Hannah are getting into the meaty stuff with a Landing That Job special: What Employers are Looking For and CVs and Interviews so far. So timely. So helpful and well researched but down-to-earth and told through the perspective of the recently graduated.
Also, a brother podcast, How’d it go? where “two best friends (Robbie and Max) review life for each other, because they were too scared to try it for themselves”. They set themselves a challenge for each episode and check in with each other on how it went. Examples are No Lying and No Swearing, Islam and Talkback Radio, Bullies and Stand-up Comedy. Again, a lot of stuff around life direction and reflection. It’s funny and moving but also (unintentionally) incredibly educational.
Here’s a little Christmas ditty from Robbie and Max, one of Max’s personal challenges to write a Christmas carol. It reminds us that we are never alone: there is always someone out there for everyone. Remember, Vic students and grads that the Careers and Employment crew are there for you, and we wish you a very joyous Christmas and holiday season.
